The boys opened the Lou Platte Conference tournament by hosting the Gibbon Buffaloes. This was a rematch from early January which the Chants won. The game started with both teams playing at a quick pace and the Chants taking a four-point lead after the 1st. “We had a good start tonight and coming into the game we thought that would be important for us.” Coach Gates said after the game. The Chants would keep extending the lead to 9 at the half. The Chants would run the lead to 16 in the 3rd before the Buffaloes would make a run at the Chants and cut the lead to eight but they would get no closer as the Chants would hold on to a 45-35 victory. The Chants were led by Blake Hinrichs with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Colton Thompson and Garret Severance would add eight points for the Chants.
On Tuesday, the Chants would travel to take the number one seed and undefeated Doniphan Trumbull. This was a rematch of a game from the previous Thursday. The game was a little different than the game on the previous Thursday. “We played better and were able to get some good looks early. Coach Gates said after the game. The Cardinal were still able to build a 16-point lead at the break. “We handled their runs a little better this week and we were able to get some stops a few more times,” Gates said. The Cardinal were still able to break away from the Chants and secured a 73-40 victory. The Chants were led by Blake Hinrichs with 18 points and Garret Severance would add eight for the Chants. The Chants will play again on Tuesday at Broken Bow before hosting O’Neill on Friday.
