Battle Creek - The Ord Chanticleers traveled to Battle Creek last Friday for their first meeting ever against the Braves. The Chanticleers lost the coin flip and Battle Creek deferred until the second half. The chants got off to a fast start taking the ball right down the field gaining a couple of first downs and then Dylan Hurlburt connected with Blake Hinrichs on a 56 yd touchdown pass and catch. The two teams would battle it out for the rest of the quarter and it ended with the Chants being up 6-0. The Chanticleers dominated the second quarter increasing their lead when Talan Bruha made 32 yd field goal. The Chanticleers defense forced another turnover and drove the field when Dylan connected with Easton Ryschon on a 43 yd pass and catch down to the 2 yd line. Trent McCain scored on the next play on a 2yd run behind the Chants’ stellar offensive line. The score at the end of the half was 15-0. The Braves responded at the beginning of the 2nd half and drove the length of the field scoring on a 28 yd touchdown run. The Chants responded by driving the field and scoring on a 28 yd field goal from Talan Bruha. The third quarter ended with score being 18-7. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the chant defense responded once again with getting a stop. The Chants took the next possession and went on an impressive 8:00 min long drive running it right at the braves. Blake Hinrichs punched it in from 2 yds out. The Chant defense was able to turn the Braves over on downs and get into victory formation to end the game. Coach Wells commented after the game, “This game is the ultimate team game and what a team win for our kids tonight. The character and fight they showed was very special tonight. We are so proud of them. We’ve been struck by the injury bug, and we’ve had so many players step up and play great. What an amazing group of young men.” The Chanticleers will be at home this week to play Gordon-Rushville. See you on Friday.
