The Chanticleer Golf Team shot 358 to place second at the Fullerton Invitational. St. Paul shot 347 for the win. The event was held at Steepleview golf course in Humphrey due to course conditions at Fullerton. It was a great day for golf as the weather finally starts to cooperate.
Tad Kovarik medaled 7th with an 86. Cade Geiser was 12th with 89 and Trey Warner shot 90 for 13th place. Grady Sheets shot 93 and Rowe Lilienthal 96.
Coach Mike Bechtold thought the Chants made some strides but still have a better number out there.
“We have glimmers of promise at times and have improved in many areas, but we have not put it all together. Hopefully we are saving it for districts.”
Bechtold praised Geiser and Warner and Sheets for their senior leadership and effort.
“We really appreciate the way these guys have handled themselves and the leadership they have shown this year.”
The Chants also dualed Arcadia-Loup City and fired a 166 to win by 26 strokes. Geiser led the way with a 38 followed by Kovarik at 39, Warner 44, Sheets 45 and Lilienthal 47.
The JVs also won 189-234. Will Skibinski carded a 45, Dawson Thompson, Garrick Boden and Isaac Van Leer all shot 48, Ethan Papiernik shot 54 and Koryn Klein 69.
The Chants play at Indianhead in Grand Island for Districts on May 17th.
