The Ord Chanticleer boys basketball team had senior night for their six seniors on Tuesday night vs Broken Bow. It was the final home game for the group of six which included: John DeRiso, Cade Geiser, Carter Griffith, Will Grint, Calen Pollard, and Blake Wells. “It was nice to honor those guys and their families before the game tonight. It is a group that deserves the recognition for what they have meant to our team and school.” Coach Gates said. Early the game featured the teams trading baskets and moving at a very quick pace with the Chants following behind by three but in the 2nd quarter, the Chants would gain the upper hand and take a four-point lead to the locker room. “We had a chance to really get that lead to 8 in the 2nd quarter and not taking full advantage of our run ended up costing us.” Coach Gates would say after the game. The third quarter would end with the Chants up 1 and the fourth quarter would end in a tie. The game headed to overtime where Broken Bow scored on three straight possessions and the Chants were never able to take the lead which allowed the Indians to take a 54-49 victory. The Chants were led by Talan Bruha with 14 points and seven rebounds. Will Grint chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds. Johnny DeRiso also added eight boards for the Chants.
On Friday the Chants traveled to take on the O’Neill Eagles and the Eagles were able to get off to a very hot start hitting 5 of their first 7 threes and then shooting 60% from the field for the half. After a big run in that half, the Chants were able to play even with the Eagles but could not overcome the barrage of shooting in the first 10 minutes of the game. The Eagles would go onto a 75-43 victory. The Chants were led by Will Grint and Blake Hinrichs with 13 points each. Cade Geiser had eight rebounds for the Chants. The Chants will end the regular season by going to Ravenna on Friday.
