wrestling

The past two weeks the Chants have been working hard and wrestling tough to be prepared for the district tournament this weekend in ONeill. We wrestled at our Home meet and GICC and both events we had a lot of hardware from both tournaments!  The Ord meet was a tough meet with 5 ranked teams and numerous ranked wrestlers in multiple weights. This challenge was accepted by the Chants and they showed how tough Ord Wrestling is during this meet. Brendan Boyce wrestled a great tournament to earn the 145 lbs Ord tournament champion. Hayden Kluthe and Ryan Gabriel wrestled tough in their final matches. Both ended up short and received 2nd place in the 138 lbs and 195 lbs respectively.  Bridger Rice Received 3rd place after losing a close match in the Semi Finals. He came back tough and showed grit after that tough loss. Trey Warner received 4th place at the 220 lbs bracket that was loaded with multiple state medalist. Trent McCain 160, Hunter Meyer 170, and Sam Boettcher 182 worked hard and ended up receiving 5th place for the Chants. All of these guys score bonus points in the tournament to help the team receive 4th place finish.

Last weekend we went to the GICC wrestling invite. It was a great opportunity for our wrestlers to get ready for the district tournament.  We ended up 2nd as a team and brought home multiple medals. Elliot Baker received his first medal of the year at 113 lbs. Also Jed Boettcher received his first varsity tournament medal at 285 lbs. It was great to see our freshman get some hardware from this tournament. These two have been developing this whole season and I love their work ethic. I was so happy to see their effort rewarding them with a medal. Elliot was 4th at 113 and Jed was 3rd at 285. We brought home 5 GICC Champions Hayden Kluthe at 138, Brendan Boyce 145, Ryan Gabriel 195lbs, Trey Warner 220 lbs and Bridger Rice at 285lbs. Every one of these guys dominated the tournament. They had a lot of matches end in a pin and showed that the chants are ready to do the same thing this weekend. Hunter Meyer wrestled a tough tournament and ended up with a 2nd place finish in the 170 bracket. Trent McCain wrestled tough matches against potential state medalist. He ended the tournament with a 4th place finish at 160lbs.  Sam Boettcher lost two close matches against good kids. He didn’t end up with a medal, but showed great improvement this year! He will be ready this weekend for districts!
