On Tuesday the Chants took on the Wood River eagles who currently sit 2nd in the Lou Platte Conference and the Chants came to battle. The Chants and Eagles would trade buckets early before a late run put the Eagles up 16-12 at the end of the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter would be much of the same with the Eagles being up 2 at the half. “We had a good half and did a good job of attacking.” Coach Gates said after the game. In the 2nd half the Chants would go cold from the field and the Eagles would take advantage. “We didn’t convert as well as we did in the 1st half and that allowed them to pull away from us.” Coach Gates said. In the 2nd half the Chants could not keep pace with the Eagles allowing the Eagles to be up 12 after the 3rd quarter and pull away for the 67-46 victory. The Chants were led by Blake Hinrichs with 14 points. Will Grint added 12 points and eight rebounds.
On Thursday, the Chants traveled to take on C-2 number four Doniphan Trumbull. The Chants started off slow and the Cardinals took advantage. The Cardinals were able to run their early lead to 18 points but the Chants would answer with a run of their own before the half and cut the lead to 11. “We answered the bell and settled in after the 1st quarter but when you play a good team you can’t spot them a big lead like that.” Coach Gates said. The Chants would keep cutting the lead to 11 but could never get the game to single digits before the Cardinals would take the victory by a score of 56-34. The Chants were led by. Blake Hinrichs with 14 points. Will Grint would add eight points and seven rebounds for the Chants.
