The Chant golf team shot a 347 on the way to the LouPlatte conference runner-up finish last Thursday. Doniphan-Trumbull shot 332 to win the meet. Centura was third at 370.
Kelen Meyer led the Chants with a third-place finish while shooting 78. Brodie Darnell was right behind in fourth with a 79. Cade Geiser also placed 12th with a 91.
Trey Warner shot 99 and Tad Kovarik 100 to round out the scoring.
Coach Mike Bechtold said the hardware is great but the Chants are not satisfied at this point.
“We have been a bit up and down this year. One week we make great strides, the next we kind of sputter. If we can put it all together in the next couple weeks, we could make some noise.”
Bechtold said he was especially pleased with Darnell who shot his first round in the 70’s at the tourney.
“I was happy for Brodie to reach that milestone before he graduated. I like it when good things happen to good people”
Bechtold said Meyer is close to playing at the next level, a 10 on his card was all that stood between him and an even or under-par round.
