The Chanticleer golf team shot a 369 to finish 3rd at the Boone Central Invitational last Saturday. Pierce and Wayne went 1,2 on the day.
Kelen Meyer medaled 6th for the Chants shooting an 84. Brodie Darnell and Tad Kovarik shot 93 to finish just out of the medals and Cade Geiser and Grady Sheets both shot 98.
Coach Mike Bechtold said the results were to be expected but the team was a bit disappointed.
“We felt a lower score was possible but expectations have to be realistic as well. We had three golfers who are getting their first varsity experience and are playing new courses. That combination can sometime lead to higher scores.”
Bechtold said he is optimistic about the year.
“We hold the cards, we have a team that can grow into a state contender. It is now a matter of making that happen through dedication and hard work.”
The Chants have upcoming meets at O’Neill, Centura and Kearney.
