Boys Finish 9th in the Team Race
The Ord High School cross country teams competed in the LouPlatte Conference meet this past Tuesday, October 6 in St. Paul. The meet was held at the St. Paul country club on a warm and windy day. The Chanticleer girls had a great day as they placed three girls in the top ten of the race. Unfortunately for the Chants their fourth runner overheated and was unable to finish the race so they could not score as a team. “I felt really bad for Hannah not being able to finish”, Coach Derry Trampe stated. “She was running a good race and the heat just got to her. She has not had a lot of time to train this year with injuries and the temps were just a little too warm for this time of the season. She gave a great effort and I am proud of her for working as hard as she did.” Kloe Severance was the top runner for the girls and finished as runner-up in the race. Severance covered the 5,000-meter course in 21:08 to claim the runner up spot. “Kloe ran one of her best races of the season”, Trampe said. “She has just gotten better every week and is really running consistently well for us. She had a good first mile and then fell back a little in the second mile but finished the last mile really strong to run down the girl ahead of her in the last 500 meters of the race. I am really pleased with where she is at right now.” Delaney Cargill finished 5th in the race to give the Chants another top ten finisher in the race. Cargill cruised around the course in a time of 21:57. “Delaney is really running well right now as well”, Coach Trampe said. “She looks really strong throughout the race and puts herself in great position to medal by running a very strong middle mile. Delaney has really developed into a very competitive cross country runner. I like her attitude and her competitiveness.” Macy Warner was the third Chanticleer to finish in the top 10 as she placed 9th in a time of 23:32 to earn a medal. This was the first time Warner has finished in the top 10 at the conference meet. “Macy has been a very consistent performer all season and it has paid off for her with the number of medals she has won this year”, Trampe stated. “She is a tough competitor and battles the entire race. I am really proud of how well she has been running this season and look for a lot of good things from her in the future as well.” Based on their top 5 finishes, both Severance and Cargill earned first team all-conference honors. With her 9th place finish Warner was named to the second team all-conference team.
The Chanticleer boys ran well but still finished 9th in the team race out of 9 scoring teams. The boys scored 133 points in the meet. “I thought our boys ran well but we just need to close the gap between our first and last runner in a meet”, Trampe said. “We had a 7-minute difference between our first and sixth runner and you simply cannot have that big of a gap between your runners and score well as a team. We just need to work to stay together when we are in practice and that will pay off for them in the future.” Treaven Scheidler was the top finisher for the boys as he placed 19th in the meet in a time of 20:13. “Treaven was in a race to win a medal for a lot of the meet”, Trampe said. “He just came up a little short in the end of the meet. I think he was less than 20 seconds out of the medals. I am really proud of the effort he put forth in this meet.” Hayden Kluthe and Gage Sintek were the second and third runners for the team as they placed 34th and 36th respectively. Kluthe finished the race in 21:37 while Sintek recorded a time of 22:13. “Hayden is doing really well in coming off the injury he had the last couple of weeks”, Trampe noted. “He is still not 100% but he is really competing hard for us. I can’t fault his effort at all. Gage continues to improve each week and he is getting stronger in the last part of the race. I like how close he has been to Hayden and how he has been working in practice.” Braden Bruha was the final scoring runner for the Chants as he finished in 44th place in a time of 24:31. “Braden has had better races this year but he has been battling some tendonitis the past couple of weeks and it has limited him some”, Coach Trampe stated. “I am pleased that he is working hard to finish races and get through practice and hopefully, we can get him through one more meet.” Pusher for the team were Crew Nelson and Caiden Hill. Nelson finished in 47th place in a time of 27:05 while Hill was 48th in a time of 27:14. “Crew and Caiden are working to get better and have improved from the start of the season”, Trampe said. “However, we need them to really close the gap on Braden and start pushing him and each other. We don’t have a lot of season left so hopefully we can get them to work to stay with Braden through the entire race at districts.”
The Ravenna girls won the team title with 21 points while Gibbon was runner-up with 41 points. Rounding out the team scores were: Arcadia-Loup City (56), Central City (59), Doniphan-Trumbull (67), and St. Paul (72). St. Paul ran away with the team title in the boys race with 14 points while Arcadia-Loup City was a distant second with 59 points. Rounding out the team scoring for the boys were: Doniphan-Trumbull (63), Gibbon (74), Ravenna (75), Centura (96), Central City (126), Wood River (130), Ord (133).
The Chanticleers will compete in the C-3 district cross country meet in Minden on Thursday, October 15 at the Minden Country Club. The girls race is scheduled to start at 5:00 pm with the boys to follow. Fans are reminded that the meet host will require face coverings for all fans in attendance.
