The Chanticleer softball team seems to have found their rhythm. After a somewhat rocky start, the softball team earned three wins from September 14-17.
Monday the 14th the ladies celebrated their parents night with a 12-7 win against Minden. Senior Hailee Smith pitched an incredible game with 10 strikeouts. Seniors Jianna Grooms and Kendyl Koehlmoos each had 3 hits.
On Tuesday the lady Chants headed to Stromsburg to take on the Polk County Slammers. The girls started the game down 0-4 until the 5th inning. The Chants rallied to win the game 6-4. Sophomore Morgan Holm had a stand out game both on the mound and at bat. She had two strikeouts, two assists, and three hits including a triple. Jianna Grooms also had an excellent game racking up six assists from shortstop and three hits.
Thursday the Chants returned home to take on Centura-Central Valley. The Chants knew this would be a big game as they had never beaten CCV. CCV struck first with a run in the top of the 1st. The Chants struck in the 2nd inning and didn’t stop. They rallied to an 11-1 victory in the 4th inning. Kendyl Koehlmoos again led the Chants with three hits. Behind her with two hits was Jianna Grooms and senior Kenna Simpson. Hailee Smith had a solid five strikeouts.
The Chants are in the middle of the busiest part of their season with games most nights during the week. The Conference Tournament is Tuesday, October 2, followed by subdistricts on Monday, October 5.
