The Ord High School cross country teams continued to show improvement in their personal performances again this week at the Central City Invitational. Nearly every runner on the teams ran their best time of the season and for many of them it was the best time of their career. “I was really pleased with the way our kids ran in this meet”, Coach Derry Trampe said. “This is a really big meet with a lot of quality schools so we didn’t fare as well as we would have liked to in the team race but we are doing what we need to do in order to be better by the end of the season.” In the boys’ team race the Chanticleers finished in 12th place out of the 12 scoring teams. Lexington won the meet with 26 point while St. Paul finished as runner-up with 39 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: Aurora (51), Minden (62), GI Northwest (99), Schuyler (111), GI Central Catholic (122), Nebraska Christian (175), Central City (182), Madison (189), Fullerton (211), and Ord (230). The Ord girls team only had three runners in the race and could not figure in the team standings. Lexington won the team race with 56 points while Nebraska Christian was second with 61 points. Rounding out the scoring teams were: GI Northwest (63), Minden (69), Aurora (71), Fullerton (83), GI Central Catholic (92), Schuyler (105), Central City (135), and St. Paul (183).
Kloe Severance was the lone medal winner for the varsity teams as she finished 12th in the field of 100 runners. Severance completed the 5,000-meter race in a time of 20:54. “Kloe got out well in the race and then struggled a little in the second mile”, Coach Trampe said. “She recovered and ran a very competitive last mile of the race and was able to pick up a medal from the meet.” Delaney Cargill finished in 20th place in a time of 21:47 while Macy Warner finished in 25th place in a time of 22:05. Both girls just missed earning a medal as the top 15 receive medals at the meet. “Delaney ran faster than she did at Broken Bow last week and finished just out of the medals”, Trampe stated. “Macy had the fastest race of her career today and really looked strong throughout the entire race.”
Treaven Scheideler has his fastest race of his career as well in this meet and finished in 64th place in the field of 161 runners. Scheideler finished the race in a personal best time of 19:33. “Treaven ran a really good time to finish in 64th place”, Trampe noted. “This was a very competitive race all the way through and I am really happy with the way Treaven ran for us today.” Gage Sintek, Braden Bruha, and Crew Nelson were the other three scoring runners for the team. Sintek finished 100th in a time of 21:37 while Bruha and Nelson were 120th and 133rd respectively in times of 22:41 and 23:22. “This was both Gage and Crew’s best times of the year so I was pleased with their performances”, Trampe said. “Braden has had better races for us but he just had one of those days where he struggled a little. He has had a really good year for us and I look for him to have better races in the future. When you are a young runner, it is hard to be consistent every week.” Caiden Hill was the lone pusher for the team as he finished in 137th place in a time of 23:54. This was nearly 3 minutes faster than his best time this year. “I am really pleased with the progress Caiden is making this year”, Trampe stated. “It is nice to have him out and to watch him just get better every day in practice and in meets. I am hoping he has a very good end to this year.”
The junior high runners competed in the longest race they will have this season as they ran a 3,000-meter race this week. “I thought our junior high runners ran really well in this race”, Trampe said. “You just don’t know how they will do on a long course but we looked really strong and competitive in this race. I think they will be able to make the jump up to high school races fairly easily next year.” Izzy Jeffres earned a medal in the girls’ race with 7th place finish in a time of 12:12 over the course. Azia Giron finished 18th in 13:10 and Eliasbeth Bengston was 48th in a time of 18:36. With only three girls the team could not score in the meet. For the boys both Gage Kolar and Elijah Pollard won medals by finishing in the top 10. Kolar finished 6th in a time of 10:47 and Pollard was 8th in a time of 10:50. Garret Severance was 14th in 11:02 and Brody Blair was 16th in 11:10 to round out the scoring runners for the Chants. Maddox Bennett was 18th in 11:19 and Grady Moudry was 26th in 11:51 to serve as pushers for the team. Also competing in the meet were Brodie Klimek (37th in 12:08), Jericho Smith (51st in 13:09), Skylar Probst (69th in 15:20), and Jeter Sanders (78th in 17:45). As a team the junior boys finished in second place with 39 points. Nebraska Christian won the meet with 29 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: Lexington (41), Schuyler (50), GI Northwest (101), Riverside (109), Aurora (114), and Madison (146).
