Natalie Williams Set School Record in 100-Meter Dash
The Ord High School track and field teams competed in the annual Broken Bow Invitational on Friday, April 11. In a meet that features all class B teams other than Ord and Kearney Catholic, the Chanticleers had one of their best meets all season. “We may not have scored a lot of points in this meet, but our kids had a very good day”, Head Coach Derry Trampe said. “This meet is a step up in competition for us and our kids really competed well against a quality field of athletes. On the day we had a total of 26 personal best performances and had a new school record established.” Natalie Williams broke her own record in the 100-meter dash by 0.15 seconds with a time of 12.47 seconds. “Natalie had a great day for the girls winning the long jump and finishing second in both the 100 and 200 as well as leading off the second place 4X100 relay team”, Trampe said. “On the boys’ side Elijah Pollard had an outstanding day as he won the 400-meter dash in a personal best time of 50.85 and anchored the winning 4X800 relay team to a season best time of 8:33.23. Jed Boettcher also had a solid day with a second-place finish in the discus with a big personal best throw of 156’ 5”. Overall, we just had a good day.”
In the team races the boys finished 6th in the 11-team field while the girls were 7th out of 11 teams. The boys scored 39 points to earn their spot in the team standings. Cozad won the meet with 123 points while Gothenburg was second with 100 points. Rounding out the team scoring were Minden (57), McCook (51), Holdrege (46), O’Neill (35), Kearney Catholic (31), Alliance (16), Broken Bow (15), and Aurora (14). The girls scored 46 points in the meet to earn the 7th place spot. McCook won the meet with 79 points while Broken Bow was a close second with 74 points. Rounding out the team scoring for the girls were Minden (73), Holdrege (65), Kearney Catholic (61), Gothenburg (54), O’Neill (28), Cozad (20), Aurora (15), and Alliance (11).
Natalie Williams brought home the lone gold medal for the girls when she won the long jump with a leap of 16’ 11.5”. Second place medals were won by Williams in the 100 (12.47 PB and school record) and 200 (25.92 PB) and the 4 X 100 relay team of Williams, Gentry Racek, Klari DeRiso, and Avarie Fox (52.22). The 4 X 100 weight person relay team of Lillie Shoemaker, Kaci Proskocil, Maddie Waltman, and Elizabeth Skibinski finished third in a time of 63.49. Trinity Chatfield added a fourth place medal in the high jump with a leap of 5’ 1” and the 4 X 800 relay team of Elle Jess, Avery Bruha, Alexandra Jeffres, and McKenna Hernandez finished fourth in a season-best time of 10:41.70. Addi Blaha won a fifth place medal in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 9’ 10”. Lillie Shoemaker finished 6th in the shot put with a toss of 37’ 5” and the 4 X 400 relay team of Gentry Racek, Elle Jess, Avarie Fox, and Klair DeRiso also finished 6th in a time of 4:32.65.
As noted earlier, gold medals for the boys went to Elijah Pollard in the 400 (50.85 PB) and the 4 X 800 relay team of Jordan Williams, Gunner Rice, Garret Severance, and Pollard in a season-best time of 8:33.23. Jed Boettcher added a second-place medal with a personal best toss of 156’ 5” in the discus. Boettcher also finished third in the shot put with a toss of 45’ 2.5” and the 4 X 100 weight person relay team of Chance Moudry, Beau Shafer, Madden Beland, and Parker Mageria finished third in a time of 52.25. Gunner Rice finished fifth in the 800 with a personal best time of 2:11.51 and the 4 X 400 relay team of Jordan Williams, Easton Ryschon, Garret Severance, and Pollard was fifth with a time of 3:41.89. The 4 X 100 relay team of Easton Ryschon, Grey Geiser, Jordan Williams, and Levin Klein finished 6th in a time of 46.45.
