The Ord High School track and field teams had another successful day at the annual ALC Rebel Invitational held in Loup City on Thursday, March 27. The Chanticleer girls won the meet with 130.5 points just 1.5 points better than runner-up St. Paul (129). Kenesaw was a distant third with 80 points. “I was very pleased with the way our girls competed in this meet”, Coach Derry Trampe said. “We had several solid performances and a great day for a meet. I was surprised by how well we did because we had worked the kids hard heading into this meet. I feel like we will have a good team this year.” Rounding out the team scoring were: Grand Island CC 70, Riverside 51.5, Central Valley 49, South Loup 39, Ravenna 33, Ansley-Litchfield 26, Newman Grove-St. Ed 19, Elba 17, and ALC 6.
The boys’ track team also had a successful day as well. The Chants finished in second place with 8 4 points. Grand Island Central Catholic won the meet with 100 points. “I was pleased with the performances of our boys in this meet”, Coach Trampe noted. “We had several first and second place finishes in events, but we need to develop our depth as a team. We have a lot of young athletes on this team, and they will develop as we go through the season. They could be a good team by the end of the season.” Rounding out the team scoring were: Central Valley (80), Riverside (73), Kenesaw (71), St. Paul (63), Ravenna (48), South Loup (47), Ansley-Litchfield (39), Arcadia-Loup City (36), Newman Grove-St. Edward (16), Elba (3).
The girls brought home four gold medals from the meet. Trinity Chatfield won the high jump with a personal best jump of 5’ 2”and Natalie Williams in the long jump and Lillie Shoemaker in the shot put also earned gold medals. Williams recorded a jump of 16’ 3.75” for win the event and Shoemaker threw the shot put 34’ 8”. Also bringing home a gold medal was the 4X100 relay team of Gentry Racek, Klair DeRiso, Leah Zangger, and Natalie Williams. The team combined to win the race in a time of 51.80. Second place medal winners were Natalie Williams in the 100 (13.02) and 200 (27.12), Leah Zangger in the 400 (63.31 PB), McKenna Hernandez in the 3200 (14:13.81), Addi Blaha in the pole vault (9’ 0”), and the 4X800 relay team of Avery Bruha, McKenna Hernandez, Alexandra Jeffres, and Elle Jess (11:09.08). Third place medals went to Avery Bruha in the 1600 (6:27.32), Lillie Shoemaker in the discus (96’ 11”), and the 4X400 relay team of Leah Zangger, Klair DeRiso, Avarie Fox, and Gentry Racek (4:35.29). Fourth place awards were won by Elle Jess in the 800 (2:49.44), McKenna Hernandez in the 1600 (6:31.80), and Gentry Racek in the pole vault (8’ 0” PB). Klair DeRiso and Jamie Vavra added 6th place medals in the long jump (14’ 3”) and high jump (4’ 8”) respectively. Avery Bruha won a 7th place medal in the pole vault (7’ 0”) while Klair DeRiso was 8th in the 400 (67.28), Alexandra Jeffres in the 800 (2:58.75), and Azia Giron was 8th in the triple jump (29’ 8”).
Elijah Pollard led the way for the boys by bringing home three gold medals on the day. Pollard finished first in the 400 (52.07), 1600 (4:59.07), and as a member of the 4X800 relay team with Jordan Williams, Gunner Rice, and Garret Severance (8:49.91). Jed Boettcher added a second place finish in the discus with a toss of 148’ 8”. Third place medals were won by Levi Klein in the 110 HH (17.69 PB), Jed Boettcher in the shot put (46’ 5.5” PB), Beau Wells in the pole vault (12’ 0”), and the 4X400 relay team of Jordan Williams, Easton Ryschon, Beau Wells, and Elijah Pollard (3:37.79). Gunner Rice and Gage Kolar added fourth place medals. Rice won his medal in the 3200 (11:21.43) and Kolar earned his in the pole vault (11’ 6”). Winning sixth place medals were Brodie Klimek in the 3200 (11:58.74) and Levi Klein in the 300 IH (45.76). Seventh place awards went to Jordan Williams in the 400 (54.85 PB) and Gunner Rice in the pole vault (10’ 6” PB). Beau Wells won an eighth place medal in the 200 (24.59 PB) and Beau Shafer earned an eighth place medal in the shot put (39’ 6.5” PB).
