Ord came into subdistrict play as the three seed in a five-team bracket.  This seeding drew an opening match up with two seed West Holt, who defeated the Lady Chants on December 10 in Ord 57-39.

The bracket was to be played out in the host city of Crofton, but the snowy weather changed the schedule up a bit.  The result was an unusual first round Wednesday night matchup of Ord and West Holt in West Holt’s home gym, in which the Lady Chants came out with the victory, winning the post season match-up 57-52 to advance to the C2-4 Subdistrict Championship game.

Claire Cargill led the Lady Chants in scoring, putting up 19 points, while Natalie Williams and Olivia Lange added 14 and 12 points respectively.

Head Coach Ryan Callan had this to say after the game: “We talk as a team about the pendulum swinging in the game of basketball.  Sometimes you go on runs and sometimes they do.  In a tight game like tonight against a well-coached athletic team, it’s all about who gets on the last run.  Our girls really stepped up to the challenge through all adversity and prevailed.  I am so proud of the work these girls have put in.”

This brought the Lady Chants on the 150-mile trip to Crofton to face the host Warriors the following evening for the subdistrict championship. Unfortunately for the Ord ladies, shooting went cold, and they only were able to shoot 27.7% from the field, losing the game 69-47.  The Warriors in white were able to shoot much better, even going 50% from behind the three-point stripe.

Senior Cargill led the way for Ord, dropping in 17 points while going 4 for 10 from three point land, while new addition to this year’s squad Lange added 12 points.  The Warriors were tough to guard as Crofton’s Sammie Allen scored 29 points on the night.

The Ord girls finished the season on a disappointing note, but were able to complete the year with a 15-10 record.
