In this writer’s years here in this community, the sense is that Broken Bow is just not a team the Chants want to lose to, ever.  Well, this one was tough, as the Lady Chants took it on the chin against the Indians 56-40 at home.

The snowy conditions were the reason the game was moved up 30 minutes, giving respect to the visitors to be able to get on the road home a little sooner.

Inside the gym, the scoreboards showed the painful gap between the visitors and the home team, points that just seemed to keep growing.  The Ord girls fought hard, never giving up, but the gap seemed insurmountable, as the Chant girls were on the opposite end of a blowout, and although it was the second lopsided loss in a row, it is quite different than what has become the norm with these ladies usually being the ones doing the blowing out of their opponents.

The three pointer is a big part of the plan for the Lady Chants, but on this occasion, the team only shot 13.6% from the three-point line which is nowhere near what is needed to win against a team like Broken Bow.

The Broken Bow full court defense also forced the Chants into some untimely turnovers, which equaled 18 turnovers in total for the Chants, resulting in 23 Indian points off turnovers.

Claire Cargill was the only Ord player in double figures in scoring on the night with 13 points, while Lillie Shoemaker added nine points in the game.

The Indians Charlee Myers led all scorers on the night with 18 points, and Janae Marten added nine.

The Lady Chants will take on the 15-7 O’Neill Eagles on Valentine’s Day evening.
