Ord Boys Drop a Heartbreaker, 64-60
By: Kyle Campise
It was a cold Tuesday night where the snow had fallen all day, painting the streets with a heavy blanket of white. Inside the gym, as the final buzzer sounded, all that remained was the cold, uncomfortable feeling of defeat for the Chant boys.
The sting of the loss to Broken Bow was heavy, hanging over Ord like the chill that was in the air outside. The warmth of the locker room couldn’t shake the feeling of defeat that had settled in, just as the snow outside continued to fall, indifferent to the hurt inside.
The Broken Bow Indians came in with a 6-13 mark, and losers of seven of their last 10 games. The Ord boys kept things close in the first quarter, but the Indians pulled away in the second, taking a 40-28 lead to the halftime break.
The Chanticleers came roaring back, and even took the lead late in the game, but it wasn’t quite enough on this snowy night. The home crowd really started to come alive with the comeback occurring, and included in the life from the crowd was a huge reaction from the student section when the alert went out that the next day would be a no school day due to weather.
Ord didn’t shoot awful, ending the game shooting at a 49% clip. The Indians were a bit more on point in the game in shooting, ending the game with a 58.5% shooting percentage. Also, three pointers were hard to come by for the Chants, only making 20% of those shots.
Jordan Willimas led the Chants with 17 points, while Landon Critel added 16 points. Colton Thompson added nine, and Garret Severance eight. The heavily guarded Elijah Pollard was only able to add six points on the night. Dominic Nowak led the Indians with 20 points, while Zachary Jackson added 16, and 6’6” Senior Braxtton Johnson added 14. The Chants will host 9-11 O’Neill on Valentines Day evening, and then close out the regular season at home against 2-18 Ravenna on February 21.
