The Ord Girls came out firing on all cylinders as they took care of the Wood River Eagles, and in doing so scored a season high seventy-three points in the game.  Wood River came into the game losing five games in a row, and they showed really that they were no match for the Ord ladies.

Ord used both a man and a 2-3 zone defense to mix things up for the Eagles, while dashing out to a twenty-nine to ten end of first quarter lead.  The mix on defense along with the Chanticleer press seemed to get to the Wood River ladies, resulting in a five-second call and a ten second call, not being able to get the ball past half court in the allotted time allowed.

The Ord offense also caused the Eagles problems, resulting in Eagle six-foot sophomore Lacie Frear getting into foul trouble early, picking up her third personal foul early in the second quarter.  Ord was able to use good passing to work the ball inside, even with the Eagles having the bigger defenders down low.  Even with Wood River having six-foot one-inch senior Courtney Dimmitt, the Chants were able to drive into the lane and then dish it out for a three.  The Eagles were just overmatched by the determined Chanticleers.

On the night, Claire Cargill led the Ord girls with twenty-one points offensively, while going 4 for 8 from the three-point line.  Cargill also led the way in assists with six.  Lillie Shoemaker added eleven, along with eleven also being added off the bench by the tough and spirited 5’8” sophomore Olivia Lange.

Langue had this to add after the game, “I feel like we played really well tonight.  We have this thing where we pass up a good shot for a great one, and I feel that happened a lot tonight.”  The game was physical, and the Ord girls were physical right back.  Langue continued, “We just had to just punch back and really be strong boxing out on defense to secure those rebounds, and I feel that that is what won us the game.”

The win is the Chants’ seventh in their last eight games and moves the Lady Chants to 11-6.  The loss moves the Wood River girls to 4-14.  Ord will face the 1-15 Doniphan-Trumbull Cardinals Thursday night at home.
