Lady Chanticleer Supremacy was the name of the game Friday night as the Ord girls shook off some home court rustiness to come away with a big basketball victory, setting this year’s high mark for team points score in the 68-26 home victory.
The girls got things started in front of a big home crowd. There had not been a home game played in about a month, and that seemed to show as the girls got off to a little bit of a sloppy start. That soon changed as every girl that was dressed out saw playing time, with all but one also scoring points on the night.
Claire Cargill had a real solid game Friday as she has shown on many occasions in her four years as a Chanticleer starter going back to when she was under the leadership of then Coach Dexter Goodner. Olivia Lange has come such a long way since joining the team this year. She began the Jaboree game not even having a varsity jersey, but has now earned that jersey, and with it, the first off the bench spot. She came off the bench Friday night, and provided that hustle and aggressiveness that we have come to know and love. Along with Olivia, Lillee Alexander, Lillie Shoemaker, and Jamie Vavra provided solid post play, as Natalie Williams and Claire Cargill took care of the backcourt duties.
For the Buffaloes, Brooke Sell, had seven points along with nine rebounds and three steals, and Kassandra Trevino, added eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Ord was led in scoring by the hot shooting hand of Claire Cargill with 20 points on the night, and she also led the team in assists with 4. Natalie Williams and Olivia Lange led the team with five steals each, while Lillie Shoemaker and Lilee Alexander added two blocks a piece.
Head Coach Ryan Callan, along with assistants Tad Kruger and Jerrod Moody, who are often seen coaching wearing matching Jordan shoes, saw much to be proud of, but also some things to work to improve in this lobsided victory. The Chanticleer victory made it two wins in a row for Ord and jolts their season record up to 6-5. As for Gibbon, their loss was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, and in doing so, dropped down to 0-11.
The Ord girls will face off against Burwell at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, while Gibbon, will try to get their first victory of the season against Blue Hill at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
