On Monday night the Chanticleer boys basketball team hosted the Riverside Chargers. The game would be a tale of two halves. In the 1st quarter, the Chargers would hit 5 of their first six threes to take a 15-9 lead after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter, the Chargers would take a 17-point lead before Garrett Severance hit a three at the horn to cut the halftime deficit to 14. “We did not execute in the 2nd quarter and it put us in a tough position.” Coach Gates would say after the game. In the 3rd quarter, the Chants would begin to rally. The Chants cut the deficit to two with a Jordan Williams three at the end of the 3rd quarter. In the 4th quarter, the Chants would pull away from the Chargers and take a 51-44 victory. “Our execution and our purpose was better in the 2nd half.” Coach Gates would say.. Elijah Pollard would lead the Chants with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Williams would add eleven points. Garret Severence would add nine points and Colton Thompson would add seven in the Chant victory. 

On Friday, the Chants hosted the St. Paul Wildcats. The early part of the game featured the teams trading baskets, with the Chants opening up a 21-15 lead in the first quarter. The Wildcats cut the deficit to 2 at the half, and the Chants led 27-25 at the break. In the third quarter, the Chants began to pull away. The Chants then took a 54-41 victory. “The 2nd half was one of our more complete halves this year and it was good to see tonight.” Coach Gates would say after the game. Landon Critel led the Chants with 16 points. Elijah Pollard would have a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds. Colton Thompson would add eleven points in the win and Jordan Williams would pitch in ten. The Chants have a busy week ahead hosting Adams Central on Tuesday before traveling to Boone Central and Arcadia-Loup City on Friday and Saturday.
