The Chants season came to an end on Tuesday night with a loss to the Broken Bow Indians. The game resembled the season for the Chants with great effort and defense but unable to convert on the offensive end. The Chants fell behind by as much as 13 points in the first half before closing the half on a run to cut the lead to five at half. The Chants would not go away till the end with the Chants cutting the lead to 2 and 3 multiple times in the 2nd half. “We were unable to get over the hump and I feel if we ever would have been able to take the lead we could have used that momentum to get the win.” Coach Gates said. The Chants would be forced to foul and allowed the Indians to stretch the lead to the final of 44-34. The Chants were led by Reese Davenport with 12 points. Quinton Ries and Johnny DeRiso each added eight points. Ries had eight rebounds in the loss. It was the last game for the Chants for seniors Gage Smith, Riley Warner, Austin Trejo, Reese Davenport, Tyson Skinner, and Brett Hinrichs. Coach Gates said after the game “I am proud of these seniors and how they handled the season. It would have been easy for their effort and enthusiasm to wain as the season went on but all the way to the end they gave us great effort. That will serve all of them well in the future.”
To close the regular season the Chants traveled to take on conference foe Ravenna. The Chants and Blue Jays had a very competitive 1st quarter with the Blue Jays having a two point lead after one. The 2nd quarter the Chants would go cold from the field and the Blue Jays would take advantage. They would extend their lead to 9 at half. “As poorly as we shot the ball and as well as they did it we felt good being down 9.” Coach Gates said. The 3rd quarter was an extension of the 2nd with the Blue Jays extending their lead to 18. In the 4th the Chants would rally and almost cut the lead to single digits but it was too little too late as the Blue Jays were able to hold the Chants off and seal the victory. The Chants were led by Zach Smith with 12 points. “When an opponent shoots over 50% from the field for the game it's hard to win and we almost found a way to make the game interesting at the end. That 4th quarter was encouraging for us going into sub districts.” The Chants next game will be a rematch with Broken Bow in the first round of sub districts at Burwell on Tuesday.
