On Monday, the Chants hosted Wood River in a repeat of a match up from the previous Tuesday. The Chants did not waste any time getting out to a lead. Reese Davenport would hit a 3 pointer at the end of the 1st quarter to take a 12-8 lead. Davenport’s three would be three of his 13 points in the half. From there the Chants would not look back and would take a nine point lead in the locker room at the half. After half the Chants and Eagles would trade baskets before a big run at the of the quarter would give the Chants a 14 point lead. In the 4th quarter the Chants would lead by as much as 20 before the final of 50-33. “We did a much better job on the defensive end tonight and that was really the difference from last week.” Coach Gates said. Johnny DeRiso led the Chants with 17 points. After the win the Chants earned the Chants for another rematch from the previous week with Doniphan Trumbull. The game started in a different fashion compared to the week before with the Chants and Cardinals trading baskets. Which would set the tone for the game. The Cardinals would take a 12-10 lead after the 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter the Chants would take the lead back and there would be many lead changes before a Reese Davenport three pointer put the Chants up 21-19 at the half. The 2nd half would follow the pattern of the 1st. The Cardinals would stretch the lead to four at one point but the Chants would cut the lead to two at the end of 3. In the 4th the teams would stay close and after the Chants had two late possessions without a bucket a steal and lay up by Quinton Ries would cut the lead back to two with 40 seconds left. The Chants would foul and the Cardinals would hit 1 of 2 free throws with 20 seconds left. The Chants would get a chance to tie the game and a three pointer the shot by Reese Davenport would bounce out and the Chants would fall 41-38. “That was the most complete game we have played on both ends.” Gates added “Credit our guys for flipping a game around from last week and giving ourselves the chance to win.” The Chants were led by Gage Smith and Quinton Ries with 11 points each. The Chants will host Broken Bow on Tuesday for senior night which will be the last game at home for seniors Reese Davenport, Brett Hinrichs, Gage Smith, Austin Trejo, Tyson Skinner and Riley Warner. The Chants will then travel on Friday to O’Neill.
