Ord High School was the host of the 2024 FCCLA District 9 Leadership Conference on Wednesday, October 16th. The conference was attended by over 300 FCCLA Chapter members from Ainsworth, Boyd County, Burwell, Chambers, Central Valley, Ord, O’Neill and West Holt Public Schools. 35 Ord FCCLA members attended the conference. FCCLA stands for Family Career and Community Leaders of America and is a career and technical education organization that is associated with promoting Family and Consumer Sciences educational objectives. It is a nationally recongized organization that helps students become more successful in their future careers, families, and communities.
The 2024-2025 District Officers were also installed at the conference. District Officers include President Zella Smith- Burwell; Vice President Celia Mott- O’ Neill; Secretary Paige Berst- Central Valley; Vice President of Membership Gracen Eckert-Boyd County; Vice President of Peer Education Skylar Kokes-Ord; Vice President of Public Relations Kiley Orton-Ainsworth; Vice-President of STAR Morgan Mitchell- West Holt; and Vice President of Service Savannah Hansen- Chambers.
The conference featured keynote speaker Ord High School Alumni: Halle Ramsey from the UNL Engler Entrepreneurship Program. She shared her journey of overcoming obstacles in life, how to change our mindset, and the Engler Entrepreneurship program. FCCLA members also had the chance to attend breakout sessions led by Nebraska FCCLA State Officer Brooklyn Eckert from Boyd-County, as well as Nebraska FCCLA State Peer Education Team Officers Elyssa Bales from David City and Taryn Wingate from Neligh-Oakdale. Other break out sessions featured speakers from Simply Sunflower Oil, UNL Extension, Engler Entrepreneurship, CCC, The National Guard, Nebraska State Patrol, National Weather Service, Me & My Shadow miniature horse therapry, Loup Basin Public Health Department, OHS Robotics teachers Jackson Barnes and Ryna Callan, OHS guidance counselor Lana Kruml, and an Art Workshop lead by OHS Art teacher Sarah Norseen. .
