O’Neill- The Chanticleers were on the road to O’Neill this week. O’Neill took the opening kickoff and went on an 11-play drive to score. After the failed 2-point try the Eagles took a 6-0 lead. The Chants would respond by driving the ball down but the drive ended in a turnover. The Chant's defense responded two plays later when Jordan Williams intercepted the Eagles and returned it inside the 10-yard line. The Chants scored a couple of plays later when Grey Geiser scored on a 6-yard run. After the extra point try was good by Colt Meyer, the Chants led 7-6. The Chant defense came to play and held the Eagle offense in check for the rest of the half. The Chants scored again in the second quarter on another touchdown from Grey Geiser on a 1-yard run. The Chants took the lead into the half 14-6. The Chants got the ball to open the second half, went on a long drive down to the 1-yard line, and turned the ball over. The Chant defense played well for most of the game. In the 4th quarter, the Eagles mounted a drive to score. The Chanticleers were still able to maintain the lead after another failed 2-point conversion, 14-12. The Chants needed to go on a drive to run the clock out but were unable to get some first downs and the Eagles blocked the punt. The Eagles scored again and completed the 2-point try to make the score 20-14. The Chants had one more opportunity to score with a 1:12 on the clock but were unable to. Coach Wells had this to say after the game, “We are really starting to play better football but still have a long ways to go. We are getting more physical each game. We just need to learn how to finish. We just can’t turn the ball over in the red zone and we need to be better on special teams. These young men have a lot of heart and fight in them.
