Natalie Williams 8th in 200, Trinity Chatfield 8th in High Jump
The Ord High School track and field teams had 17 competitors competing in the Class C state championships last Friday and Saturday in Omaha. Blake Hinrichs capped off a successful season in the triple jump with a first-place finish. “Blake has been a consistent performer for our team all season”, Coach Derry Trampe stated. “He had six good jumps in the meet but two of them were fouls. His four jumps that were measured were all over 44 feet with two of his jumps at the winning distance of 44’ 7.5”.” Hinrichs finished 1.75 inches ahead of the second place jumper. Natalie Williams and Trinity Chatfield also brought home medals from the meet. Williams ran a personal best time of 25.97 in the prelims of the 200 to earn a spot in the finals. In the finals Natalie finished in 8th place in a time of 26.36. “Natalie had a great race in the semifinals and a very good race in the finals”, Trampe said. “In the finals she got off to a great start and looked great through the curve but just couldn’t hold on to the finish. I am proud of the way she competed in a very competitive race.” Chatfield also earned an 8th place medal with a personal best jump of 5’ 1” in the high jump. “Trinity jumped as well as she has all season”, Trampe noted. “She had some early misses at each height but found enough to clear 5’ 1” on her third attempt to earn a medal. It looked like her step was off a little, but she found a way to overcome that and bring home a medal. She just continues to get better every year and I am excited to see what next year will bring.”
In addition to the 200, Williams also competed in the 100 and the long jump. In the 100 she finished 11th with a time of 12.69 just .07 from making it to the finals. In the long jump her best jump of 16’ 5” put her in 10th place as she missed making the finals by 0.75 inches. Elle Jess competed in the 800 and recorded a personal best time of 2:29.05 to finish in 19th place. The 4 X 400 relay team of Natalie Williams, Claire Cargill, Elle Jess, and Maggie Fischer ran a time of 4:16.87 to finish in 15th place. Lillie Shoemaker finished 15th in the shot put with a toss of 36’ 0” while Addi Blaha tied for 15th in the pole vault with a jump of 9’ 0”, and Jocelyn Hinrichs finished 19th in the triple jump with a jump of 32’ 9.5”.
Elijah Pollard finished 16th in the 400-meter dash in a time of 52.24 and 13th in the 1600 in a time of 4:44.21. Garret Severance was 21st in the 800 in a time of 2:07.13. Pollard and Severance teamed up with Gunner Rice and Jace Gieser to finish 12th in the 4 X 800 relay in a time of 8:41.93. The 4 X 400 relay team of Blake Hinrichs, Aidan Ryschon, Trent McCain, and Elijah Pollard combined to finish 15th in the event in a time of 3:36.38. Jed Boettcher finished 22nd in the discus with a toss of 137’ 4” and Blake Hinrichs placed 22nd in the long jump with a jump of 18’ 9.5”. Gage Kolar had a difficult time with the cross wind in the pole vault and was unable to clear the opening height of 11’ 6”.
In the team standings the boys finished in a tie for 21
st
place with 10 points while the girls finished in a tie for 38
th
place with 2 points. Chase County won the boys meet with 65 points while Arlington finished second with 49 points. In the girls team race Kearney Catholic was the state champion with 86.5 points and Bishop Neuman finished as the runner-up with 60 points.
