The Ord High School track and field teams hosted their home invitational last Thursday on a sunny and mild day. “It was great to get the meet in this week”, Coach Derry Trampe commented. “We had a lot of rain on Wednesday and standing water in the shot put and pole vault areas. Thankfully, the city workers and our custodial staff helped get the water pumped away from these areas so we could host this event. We have a great community that works together and I appreciate all that they do for us.” The Chanticleer boys won the team title by 27 points over both Boone Central and Central City. The Chants scored 138 points while the Cardinals and Bison each scored 111 points to tie for second. “It was nice to have our boys win this meet”, Trampe stated. “We have been close several times this year and it was nice to get over the top. I was especially pleased to see us win when we made the effort to rest some of our kids and not have them compete in as many events this week.” Rounding out the team scoring were St. Paul (76), Grand Island CC (61), Arcadia-Loup City (16), Burwell (2), and Ord JV (2).
The girls scored 88 points to finish third in the team standings. Boone Central won the meet with 111 points while Central City was second with 105.5 points. “Our girls had a good day with a lot of personal best performances”, Trampe noted. “I thought we competed very well, and we held the girls out of events to get them ready for districts this next week. I was just happy with the fact that we had 22 personal best performances from our girls and 20 from our boys. We seem to be peaking at the right time.” Rounding out the team scoring were Grand Island CC (84), St. Paul (59.5), Burwell (54), and Arcadia-Loup City (20).
The girls won three events on the day and finished second in three events to boost their team total.
