The Ord High School cross country teams completed their seasons this past Friday at the state cross country meet in Kearney. The Chanticleers had two runners competing in the state meet with Kloe Severance competing in the girls’ race and Colton Rowse in the boys. “I was really pleased with the way both Colton and Kole competed in the state meet”, Coach Derry Trampe commented. “They got out great in the first mile of the race and ran well throughout the race but were not able to finish in the top 15 to bring home a medal. The times that they posted were really good for this course but there was a lot of great competition at the meet this year.”
Colton competed in his fourth state meet and finished 54th in a time of 18:19.4 over the 5,000-meter course. There were 97 runners in the race. “Colton got out to a great start and put himself in good position at the mile”, Trampe said. “However, he just didn’t have enough in the tank to hold pace for the entire race. With him missing almost half of the season with an injury it was amazing that he made it to the state meet this year. It is too bad that he had to miss so much practice time because if he were healthy all season, I believe he would have been right in the running for a state medal. He has had a great career for us and I am going to miss him next season.”
Kole finished 30th in the field of 98 runners in a time of 21:19.2. Like Colton, Kloe got out great in the first mile and was in 16th place at that point. During the second mile of the race she tripped and fell down going downhill and dropped back into the 40’s and then had to work to make up ground the rest of the race. “Kloe ran a really good race and it is too bad that she fell when she did”, Coach Trampe commented. “She was in great shape and running really well and then all at once she was really back in the race. I am proud of the fact that she regrouped and continued to run a competitive race the rest of the way. It would have been easy to quit and feel sorry for yourself but she is a great competitor. It was nice to get her back to the state meet and if we continue to do the things we need to do, we will have a team down here to compete with her next year as well.”
The LouPlatte All-Conference teams were announced as well this past week and the Chanticleers had several members make the teams. For the girls Kloe Severance was named to the first team. Morgan Ritz, Delaney Cargill, and Macy Warner were named to the second team and Abby Jacobs was honorable mention. For the boys Reese Davenport and Colton Rowse were named to the honorable mention team.
