On Tuesday, the Chants hosted the undefeated Cozad Haymakers. The Chants jumped out a 13-11 lead after the 1st. “We thought it was vital for us to get off to a good start tonight and we did that. Coach Gates said. The Haymakers would take the 2nd quarter by 2 tying the game 27-27 at half. In the 3rd both teams would go on 8-0 runs with Cozad going on the first one then followed by an 8-0 run by the Chants. The Chants would grab a four-point lead with a minute to go. The Haymakers would hit a three-pointer with ten seconds to cut the lead to one. Garret Severance would hit a free throw to extend the lead to two. With no time remaining Cozad would hit a half-court three to win the game 50-49. “That was a tough loss for us we did the things we needed to do and we didn’t get the win.” Coach Gates said. Blake Hinrichs led the Chants with 21 points. Jordan Williams added 12 for the Chants. Talan Bruha added nine points and eight rebounds for the Chants.
Friday night the Chants took on the Gibbon Buffaloes from the start the Chants were in control. The Chants jumped out to an 11-point lead and would not look back. The Chants would grow the lead to 13 before the half. Before pulling away for a 58-37 victory. “It was nice to bounce back after that tough loss the other night and we executed what we wanted to do tonight.” Coach Gates said. Blake Hinrichs led the Chants with 15 points. Elijah Pollard added 13 for the Chants. Talan Bruha added 12 points and nine rebounds. The Chants will host Burwell on Thursday before traveling to St. Paul on Friday.
