CENTRAL CITY- The Ord Chanticleer football team travelled to Central City last Friday, hoping to rebound from their first loss of the season, the week before to #2 Pierce. The Chants came out of the gate slow, giving up two early scores in the first quarter and falling behind 14-0, but it was all Chanticleers from that point on as Ord scored the next 44 points of the contest. The Chants scoring run started with a four-yard touchdown run by junior running back Tommy Stevens, his first of four scores on the night. Stevens got his second score on an electric 71-yard run in the second quarter and got his third on an eight-yard scamper later in the second. Junior kicker Kelen Meyer made a 26-yard field goal as time expired in the second quarter to give the Chants a 24-14 lead heading into the half. In the third quarter Stevens struck again from 1 yard out and junior wideout Quinton Ries caught a five-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Zach Smith to give the Chanticleers a commanding 38-14 lead entering the fourth quarter. Junior running back Garret Kluthe punched in the last Chant score of the night from 1 yard in the fourth. The Chanticleers absolutely dominated in the run game throughout the contest, a dominance that was spearheaded by the big men up front. The Chant pipeline opened giant holes in the Central City defense all night and allowed for the Chants to pick up 405 yards on the ground. Tommy Stevens had another stellar night toting the rock, rushing for 305 yards while averaging 9.8 yards per carry. The big men on the defensive side did their part as well, only allowing 3.8 yards per rush attempt for the Bison in an all-around commanding victory for the Chanticleers. The #7 ranked Chants will head to Hastings this Friday to take on #3 Adams Central.
