Memorial Stadium, Lincoln - The Ord Chanticleers traveled to Lincoln to play the Knights of Norfolk Catholic in the C2 State Championship Game. In a much anticipated rematch from earlier in the year, the Chants won the coin toss and elected to defer to the second half. After a defensive battle for much of the first quarter, Talan Bruha intercepted a pass in Knight territory. After a first down by the Chants offense, the Knight defense was able to force a 4th down. The Chants elected to try a field goal and Talan Bruha was good from 40 yards out to make the score 3-0 and that's how the first quarter would end. The Knights would respond in the second quarter by scoring 21 unanswered points in the second quarter. Both teams would head into the locker room with the Knights leading 21-3. The Chants got the ball to start the second half and were unable to move the ball. The Knights added three more touchdowns in the third quarter and the half ended with the score being 41-3. The Chanticleers continued to play hard and there was no scoring in the 4th quarter. The Chanticleers’ Coach Wells commented after the game, “The game didn’t go the way we had envisioned it going. We got off to a pretty good start leading after one quarter and the game got away from us in the second and third quarter. However, we had an incredible season. We got better as the season went on, and having a chance to play for a State Championship is something these young men will never forget. Our young men were able to create many memories and special relationships throughout the season. We are very proud of our team and our seniors. The seniors were State Champs, State Runner-Ups, and two-time semi-finalists. This team played their hearts out all season and represented our school and community with toughness, resolve, and a passion for each other. These young men are special in many ways, can’t say enough good things about them. Thank you to everyone who supported our team throughout the whole season.”
