Broken Bow - The Ord Chanticleers went on the road this week to take on the Broken Bow Indians. On what turned out to be great football weather minus the wind, some wondered how the field conditions would be for the game considering the record amounts of rainfall Broken Bow received the day before. As it turns out, water drains fast in Bow. The field was in great condition. As for the game, this was a slugfest throughout the game. Big shifts of momentum for each team with big plays, big stops, penalties, and mistakes. The Chants won the toss and deferred to the second half. Broken Bow’s first possession ended on a 4th down fumble that was recovered by Tad Kovarik. The Chanticleers marched the ball down the field to the seven yard line and were unable to punch it in for score. The first quarter went fast and ended in a tie 0-0. The second quarter was much the same until the end of the quarter when Bow scored on a 18 yard run. The Chants got the ball back with 1:27 left on the clock and mastered a great drive going 80 yards when Dylan Hurlburt found Blake Hinrichs for a 10 yard pass and catch for a touchdown with 4 seconds left on the clock. The first half ended in a tie 7-7. In the third quarter, Broken Bow struck first when the the quarterback broke tackles and scored on a 54 yard touchdown run. On the ensuing kickoff, Broken Bow tried a quick kick that didn’t get 10 yards. The Chants got great field position and responded quickly when Trent McCain took it 51 yards for a score on a speed option play. At the end of the third, it was 14-14. In the fourth quarter, the Chant defense got another crucial stop. On the Chants next offensive possession, Trent McCain scored on another speed option play for a 29 yard touchdown run to make the score 21-14. The Chants defense got to two big stops at the end of the game to close out a fantastic game. Coach Wells commented after the game, “This was a game of two physical footballs teams battling it out to see who wanted it more. Our guys rose to the occasion many times throughout the game and we are proud of the mental toughness and leadership our young men displayed tonight. Much respect for their team and their toughness. We stayed with the process and got it done. Couldn’t be more proud of our team. They battled and found a way to come out on top.” The Chanticleers will be on the road this week to take on Centura for the last regular season game.
