Owen Lane won two medals at the state track and field meet last weekend in Omaha. The Ord senior ran a personal best time of 1:58.88 in the 800-meter run to bring home a 7th place medal. His time was only 0.55 seconds off the current school record. “Owen had a great career and finished it off with his best times ever at the state meet”, Head Coach Derry Trampe said. “He is a hard-working young man and a great leader for our team. I expected him to finish higher with the time he posted but it was a loaded field at the state meet this year.” Lane’s second medal came on the 4 X 800 relay where he teamed up with Garret Severance, Elijah Pollard, and Jace Geiser to run a season best time of 8:25.28 to bring home a 5th place medal. “Our relay had a very good day”, Trampe stated. “We ran our best time of the season, and all the members of the team brought their times down. I am really excited about this team and what they will be able to do in the future. We lose Owen from the team, but we will have three of them back for next season and we have a lot of good 800 runners coming back next year.”
In addition to the medal winners at the meet, the Chanticleers had several other solid performances at the meet. Both Garret Severance and Elijah Pollard set personal best marks in the 1600-meter run at the meet. Severance finished in 19th place in a time of 4:46.32 and Pollard was 21st in a time of 4:46.82. Hayden Kluthe finished 13th in the 110 HH in a time of 15.89 and 14th in the 300 IH in a time of 42.09. Sam Boettcher was 16th in the discus with a toss of 142’ 8” and 25th in the shot put with a throw of 36’ 7.75”. Owen Lane finished in 18th place in the 400-meter run with a time of 53.03. Colton Thompson finished 15th in the high jump with a jump of 5’ 10”. “I felt like all of our kids competed well, but you would like to see them get in the medals”, Coach Trampe said. “I wasn’t disappointed in the effort we got from our kids, I was just disappointed for them because of the hard work they have put in this year and in the past. They were a great group of kids to coach this season and I am going to miss our seniors next year.” For the girls Britta Deden finished 20th in the 100 HH in a time of 16.85 and 24th in the 300 LH in a time of 52.37. Natalie Williams was 22nd in the 200 in a time of 27.79 while Maggie Fischer was 23rd in the 400 in 63.82. Marin Reilly was 17th in the discus with a toss of 112’ 11” and 14th in the shot put with a throw of 36’ 9”. Lexi Vancura capped off her career with a 13th place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 34’ 0.75”. “We were not far off of our season best times but at the state meet you have to be at your absolute best to win the medals”, Trampe noted. “I was pleased with the efforts of all our kids not only at the state meet but the entire season. This has been a very enjoyable team to coach.”
