Junior Rowe Lilienthal earned a trip to the state golf meet with a 9th place finish at the district meet at Indianhead Golf Course in Grand Island. Lilienthal shot an 80, highlighted by birdies on his last hole on the front nine and the back nine.
Coach Mike Bechtold called his performance a steady, controlled and efficient round.
“Rowe was very in control of his game and his putting was outstanding. He was hitting greens in reg and when he didn’t, he made a putt to save par. He knew he needed a birdie on the last hole and hit a beautiful drive, and even better second shot to leave a short eagle putt. He missed that barely and tapped in for birdie. That sealed his trip to state.”
Lilienthal will compete at the State Tournament May 23rd and 24th at Elks Country Club in Columbus.
The Chant team finished 6th in one of the toughest districts in the state. They shot a 358.
Tad Kovarik shot 86, Brody Blair 94, Caden Lytle 98 and Will Skibinski 99.
Coach Bechtold said the young team probably learned a lot from the meet.
“We had some nerves and that is typical of a young group, but the experience will help these kids next year.”
The Chants ended the year with two dual victories and two runner-up finishes in invitationals along with a third. Multiple individual medals were collected as well.
