The Chant golf team continued the climb to district competition by finishing 3rd at the Fullerton Invite and by winning a dual with ALC.
The Chants shot a season-best 332 at Fullerton to get edged out of a runner-up finish by David City who shot 328. St. Paul won the meet.
Ord had two top finishers with Tad Kovarik shooting a 72 to place second and Rowe Lilienthal shooting 77 to finish 4th. Caden Lytle shot 88 and was just out of the medals. Dawson Thompson shot 95 and Will Skibinski 96 to round out the scoring.
Coach Mike Bechtold said he sees improvement but not consistency.
“We tend to be a bit up and down. It seems we can’t get over the hump to all shoot well on the same day.”
Bechtold said he is hopeful for districts and sees the Chants as one of the several teams that have the ability to qualify for the state meet.
“We just need to peak at the right time. I expect us to be in the mix for top three but it will take best efforts from all of our golfers to get it done.”
The Chants also played a dual at Arcadia/Loup City and came away victorious. Ord shot 180 to ALC’s 243. The Chant JV’s shot a 204 on the day. Rowe Lilienthal led the varsity with a 41 and Brody Blair led the JV’s with 43. Other scores were Caden Lytle 46, Will Skibinski 46, Tad Kovarik 47, Dawson Thompson 53, Deegan Nebesniak 52, Austin Stethem 52, Jericho Smith 57, Garret Schamp 58 and Aiden Cicotte 65.
District meet is Tuesday, May 16th at Indianhead in Grand Island.
