The Ord High School track and field teams competed in the LouPlatte Conference meet on Thursday, May 1 in Gibbon. On a beautiful day for a track meet both teams finished in the middle of the field. “I thought our kids really competed well throughout the day”, Coach Derry Trampe stated. “We had some great performances on the day and we had a few places where I think we could have competed a little better but overall we had a good meet. We had a total of 18 personal best marks on the day and I am happy with that.” The Chanticleer girls finished in fourth place with a total of 59.25 points. Arcadia-Loup City won the meet with 98 points while Doniphan-Trumbull was right behind them with 96.25 points. Wood River finished thirs with 87 points. Rounding out the scoring were: Centura (55), St. Paul (44.5), Central City (38), Ravenna (28), and Gibbon (21). The boys scored 51 points to finish 5th in the 9-team field. St. Paul ran away with the team title with 144 points. Centura was a distant second with 94 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: Ravenna (66), Doniphan-Trumbull (65), Wood River (33), Gibbon (33), Arcadia-Loup City (31), and Central City (10).
The girls had three individual champions on the day to score the bulk of their points. Kloe Severance won the 1600-meter run in a personal best time of 5:36.31. Payton Hackel brought home a gold medal with an impressive win in the 100-meter high hurdles. Hackel ran a 16.63 to reach the finals and then won the finals in a time of 16.00. Kailey Bruha also brought home a gold medal with a win in the pole vault at a height of 9’ 0”. Third place medals were won by Payton Hackel in the 300-meter low hurdles in a time of 50.22 and the 4 X 800 relay team of Kloe Severance, Delaney Cargill, Abby Jacobs, and Abbi Stethem in a season-best time of 10:31.95. Fourth place medals went to Allie Moudry in the shot put (33’ 9”), Kailey Bruha in the long jump (14’ 10.5”), and the 4 X 400 relay team of Payton Hackel, Emma Biskeborn, Kloe Severance, and Kailey Bruha (4:29.11). Kailey Bruha added a 5th place medal on the day with a time of 28.88 in the finals of the 200-meter dash and the 4 X 100 relay team of Katie Magiera, Emma Biskeborn, Cierra Vanosdall, and Payton Hackel also finished 5th in a time of 56.02. Sixth place medals were won by Cierra Vanosdall in the 100-meter high hurdles in a personal best time of 17.67 and Reilly Peetz in the high jump with a jump of 4’ 6”.
While the boys did not win an event, they had several second place finishes on the day. Zach Smith was second in the 1600-meter run in a season-best time of 4:51.81 and Hayden Grint was second in the discus with a toss of 136’ 4”. The 4 X 400 relay team of Jaden Reilly, Austin Trejo, Solomon Campise, and Riley Warner finished second in a season-best time of 3:40.47 and the 4 X 800 relay team of Colton Rowse, Riley Warner, Tyson Skinner, and Zach Smith also finished second in a time of 8:42.28. Jaden Reilly added a third place finish in the 400-meter dash in a time of 53.15. Fourth place medals were won by Mitchell Knapp in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in a personal best time of 43.56 and Jesus Loya in the discus with a toss of 133’ 1”. Zach Smith finished fifth in the pole vault with a vault of 10’ 6” and the 4 X 100 relay team of Jaden Reilly, Riley Warner, Solomon Campise, and Mitchell Knapp also finished fifth in a time of 47.33. Sixth place medals were won by Riley Warner in the 400 (54.88 PB) and Jesus Loya in the shot put (43’ 10.5”).
