Fifteen members of the Ord High Track and Field teams competed in the annual Central Nebraska Track Championships held at Northwest High School in Grand Island on Monday, April 24. The teams combined to bring home five medals from the meet and set several personal and season best marks. “I was very pleased with the way our kids competed in this meet”, Coach Derry Trampe commented. “We had a lot of good things happen at this meet and it is a good way to prepare for the stretch run of the season.”
Owen Lane was a double gold medalist in the meet. Lane won the 800-meter run in a personal best time of 2:01.49. He also teamed up with Garret Severance, Elijah Pollard, and Jace Geiser in the 4 X 800 to bring home a gold medal with a season best time of 8:27.29. Hayden Kluthe added two medals as well as he finished third in both the 110-meter high hurdles and the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. In very competitive races Kluthe ran a 15.55 to claim his medal in the high hurdles and a personal best time of 40.72 in the intermediates. Sam Boettcher added a third place medal in the discus with a toss of 143’ 5”. “All of our kids had a good night, but it was nice to see these guys bring home medals from the meet”, Trampe said. “We have a lot to look forward to as we finish out the year”.
In addition to the medal winners, the Chants had several quality performances on the night. Finishing fourth in the high jump was Colton Thompson. Thompson earned the fourth place finish with a jump of 5’ 10”. Sam Boettcher finished fifth in the shot put competition with a toss of 47’ 6.25”. Sixth place finishes were earned by Maggie Fischer in the 400 (PB 63.39), Britta Deden in the 100 HH (17.15), Trinity Chatfield in the high jump (4’ 10”), the 4 X 100 relay team of Lexi Vancura, Britta Deden, Marin Reilly, and Natalie Williams (SB 52.21), and the 4 X 400 relay team of Maggie Fischer, Marin Reilly, Claire Cargill, and Natalie Williams (SB 4:20.49). Elijah Pollard finished 11th in the 1600 in a personal best time of 4:49.09 and Garret Severance was 12th in the 1600 in a time of 5:04.76. The 4 X 400 relay team of Owen Lane, Blake Hinrichs, Jace Geiser, and Hayden Kluthe was disqualified for a false start.
