The high school track and field teams put together several solid performances at the Broken 

Bow track and field invitational last Thursday.  The Chanticleer boys finished 6th in the l1-team field with 51.5 points.  McCook won the meet with 78 points while Aurora was the runner up with 71 points.  “I was really happy with the way both our boys and girls competed in this meet”, Coach Derry Trampe commented.  “This is a meet with mostly Class B teams and teams that are historically good track teams.  We posted some great marks on the day and had a total of 24 personal best performances on the day.  I thought our kids stepped up and competed well in a quality field of teams.”  Rounding out the scoring in the boys meet were: Gothenburg (70), Broken Bow (64), Scottsbluff (60), Cozad (44.5), Holdrege (42), Kearney Catholic (22), O’Neill (17), and Alliance (7).  The girls scored 21.5 points to finish in 8th place in the team standings.  McCook also claimed the girls title with 108 points while Kearney Catholic was a distant second with 74 points.  Rounding out the team scoring in the girls meet were: Gothenburg (67), Aurora (59), Cozad (56), Holdrege (51.5), Scottsbluff (42), Broken Bow (21), O’Neill (15), and Alliance (12).

Gold medal winners for the boys were Hayden Kluthe and Owen Lane.  Kluthe won the 110 HH in a season best time of 15.47 while Lane won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:04.83.  Kluthe added a second place medal in the 300 IH in a time of 43.74 and the 4 X 800 relay team of Owen Lane, Garret Severance, Elijah Pollard, and Jace Geiser combined to finish in second place with a season best time of 8:47.59.  Third place medals went to Owen Lane in the 400 in a time of 53.85 and Sam Boettcher in the discus.  Boettcher set a new personal best mark with a toss of 157’ 9”.  The 4 X 400 relay team of Owen Lane, Blake Hinrichs, Jace Geiser, and Hayden Kluthe brought home a fifth place medal with a season best time of 3:41.54.  Colton Thomsen tied for 5th and 6th in the high jump with a personal best jump of 5’ 8”.  In a non-scoring event, the 4 X 100 weight person relay of Sam Boettcher, Colt Meyer, Jed Boettcher, and Damon Stam finished 6th in a time of 53.24.

Two girls brought home third place medals in individual events to lead the girls team.  Britta Deden finished 3rd in the 100-meter HH in an season best time of 17.00 and Natalie Williams finished third in the long jump with a leap of 15’ 7”.  Lexi Vancura added a fourth place medal in the long jump with a jump of 15’ 2”.  Sixth place medals went to Marin Reilly in both the shot put and discus.  Reilly had a season best toss in the shot put of 35’ 8.75” and a personal best throw in the discus of 110’ 6”.  Jocelyn Hinrichs added an individual sixth place finish in the triple jump with a jumpe of 31’ 9.5” on her last jump of the competition.  Both the 4 X 100 and 4 X 400 relay finished sixth in their races.  The 4 X 100 team of Lexi Vancuar, Britta Deden, Marin Reilly, and Natalie Williams combined to clock a season best time of 53.43.  The 4 X 400 team of Maggie Fischer, Marin Reilly, Claire Cargill, and Natalie Williams combined to run a season best time of 4:25.94.  In a non-scoring event, the 4 X 100 throwers relay team of Savannah Jacobs, Lillie Shoemaker, Jenna Deden, and Bailey Setlik finished in 3rd place in a tiem of 63.73.
