Chant Golfers Get In The Swing

The Ord golf team finally kicked off the season last week after a slow start to the season due to weather.  The Chanticleers split up because a meet was postponed to the date of another.

The Chant varsity team travelled to Albion to dual with the Boone Central Cardinals.  Brodie Darnell carded a 48 to lead the Chants to a 212 - 246 victory. Ethan Ries shot 51, Shay Holm 53, Cooper Sheets 60 and Aaron White 60.  Boone’s Bradon Anderson was low score with s 46.

Meanwhile the JV team went to Grand Island to participate in the Northwest Junior Varsity Invitational.  The Chants finished 5th of 12 teams at Jackrabbit Run golf course. Adams Central won the meet.

Kelen Meyer won the runner-up medal shooting an 82.  He was edged out by Andrew Stock of Doniphan-Trumbull.  Coach Mike Bechtold was impressed with Meyer in his first meet for the Chants.

“Kelen played very well and was disappointed he didn’t win,” Bechtold said, “he was cruising until the 17th and hit a couple that the wind carried out of bounds.  Without those, he wins easily.”

Bechtold was happy with all of the golfers performances on the day noting it was the first 18 hole meet for all of them but Meyer.

“This meet is filled with good golfers every year and it is very tough competition, “Bechtold said, “to finish 5th is very good.”

Trey Warner shot 51-46 for a 97 on the day, followed by Jesse Ulrich at 102, Cade Geiser at 103, Grady Sheets 111 and Klancy Bower at 120.

The Chants host the Ord Invite on April 9th and go back to Boone Central on Saturday, April 13th.
