The Chanticleer track teams got their outdoor track season started this past Friday at the annual St. Paul invitational. The boys finished fourth in the 9-team field with a total of 88 points which was just 2 points out of third. “I was pleasantly surprised with the way our boys performed”, Coach Derry Trampe stated. “We graduated a lot of seniors last year and we are a fairly young squad this year so it was nice to get off to a good start.” St. Paul ran away with the team title by scoring 164 points with Minden as the runner-up with 111 points. Centura just edged the Chants for third with 90 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: Ravenna (66), Burwell (58), Hastings St. Cecilia (57), Central City (12), and Palmer (8).
The girls scored 52 points to finish 6th in the 9-team field. “We have a lot of young girls on our team and we need to develop a little as the season goes on”, Trampe said. “We were missing Payton Hackel due to an injury and that kept our point total down but I don’t think we would have moved up in the team standings if she had been healthy.” Hastings St. Cecilia won the meet with 122 points while St. Paul finished as the runner-up with 109 points. Rounding out the team scoring were: Burwell (99), Central City (93.5), Centura (85), Minden (47), Ravenna (32.5), and Palmer (22).

Also, the relay was a pleasant surprise because we have 3 new members on that relay this year.” Colton Rowse brought home the lone third place medal with his finish in the 1600-meter run.
